Wi-fi and Router Help Please?

Okay so i have a wireless router...but its really for my laptop....anyways i cant connect to wifi because its a d-link router....is there any way around this?...mii dad wont let me drop the security when i want to use wifi so that option is out. i also heard that you can change the settings to wep...but he doesnt want to do that either. .....is there any other way to connect using the ds and this stupid router? if you can give me a useful answer you get best answer
