Can a bone scan pick up on dead cancer cells after one has been treated for bone cancer?

My daughter was just treated with chemotherapy for cancer that spread to the bones. Stage111. She just had another bone scan and it looks the same. I have read that a bone scan also will detect dead cancer cells. Is this true?
