How can I help a narcissist who wants to be helped?

You can't, and you KNOW you can't. Don't try. If he really wants help, he'll seek it out from a professional. What he wants from YOU is attention, and apparently you're giving it to him. If I was a harsher person, I would remind you that paying him the attention that he wants is actually feeding his narcissism instead of helping.
