Novel I read about 5 yrs ago, can't remember the title or author for the life of me. Please help!?

Kinda like the Girl with the Pearl Earring, but I don't think it was that one. The premise of the book is a painting that travels throughout the centuries. Every chapter depicts a different era, a different context in which the painting is owned. It's in reverse chronological order; the last owners are a Jewish family before being deported, the first owners are, I think, a peasant family in Holland. Does it ring a bell?
