reduction advice?

My mom just had the surgery and she is in her mid 50's so a bit older than most who have it and shes finding it difficult to use the bathroom b/c the toilets home are a bit lower than at the hospital i told her to try scooting as far to the edge as possible and lift herself with the help of the edge of the sink and tub also i told her not go by herself let someone know especially since we are only going on day 3 of recovery other than that she says the worst part is the itching from the tape and not being able to really do much with her arms but what are some ways to have an easier recovery if there are any?
