Why is it wrong to believe in an afterlife? That death is not the end, but rather, a new beginning?

That belief would put you in the majority of human beings on earth. Isn't if funny how we who hold to an afterlife are ridiculed by those in a relatively small minority as if we (not they) are the "odd man out"?
